Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
1. The Story
Theory provides in detail its own seven-phase process of inquiry in building
and conceptualizing substantive knowledge, practically bridging the stories
gathered to evidence-based nursing practice.
2. Story
telling is more than a therapeutic approach; it is a sophisticated method of
data gathering and analysis with prime goal of guiding the nurse critically in
the decision-making process.
Weaknesses
1. Story
telling as an approach for gathering information may not be a comfortable method
for some people, hence extensive data may not be elicited. However, this can be
resolved through appropriately building of rapport and ensuring
confidentiality.
2. The
practical usage mentioned in the theory was limited to practice and research,
albeit there is certainly a way to apply this in the fields of nursing
administration and education.
